SANTA ANA, CA – On July 21, 2010, the Orange County League of Cities, which provides education, information and advocacy services for the 32 Orange County cities it represents, voted without dissent to support the Poseidon Resources Huntington Beach Seawater Desalination Facility. The League’s vote came on the heels of 14 Orange County cities that have adopted resolutions of support of the project. Another eight Orange County cities have signed letters of intent to purchase a portion of the desalinated water produced by the project.
“Municipalities throughout Orange County understand the need for a new, locally-controlled, drought-proof water supply,” said Poseidon Resources Vice President Scott Maloni. “To have the support of the Orange County League of Cities, which fights for good public policy on behalf of all Orange County cities, is a significant step toward the inevitable completion of this water purification project.”
The Orange County League of Cities is simply the latest in a growing chorus of support for the project, which includes unanimous bipartisan support from the Orange County state legislative delegation, the Orange County Business Council, the Orange County Taxpayers Association and thousands of residents throughout Orange County.
“Desalination must be included in any discussion of future water sources for Orange County."
